Pasa Puchah Guthi UK AGM 2010

Pasa Puchah Guthi UK held its 9th Annual General meeting on Sunday, 12 September 2010 at 121 Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush, London W12 8NL. Meeting was chaired by Founder Member, Shashi Manandhar and headed by the President Krishna Chakhun.

Krishna Chakhun gave the run down of the events held in last 2 years during his time as the President of Pasa Puchah Guthi. Various programmes like regular annual Mha-Puja events, picnic, football participation, Charya dance by Prajjwal Vajracharya, table-tennis competition, talk programs on Newah language and other events were remembered most. He has also thanked all for supporting the struggle against a group of members who were actively involved in breaking Newah unity in the UK.  Finally all Newah in the UK stood united under the banner of PPGUK. According to the aspirations of PPGUK and its constitution four other branches of PPUK have been opened so far in different parts of UK and the process is continued in other areas. A Board of Trustees comprising representatives from all branches has been formed. Krishna pointed this all as a big achievement in expansion and promotion of PPGUK. He further informed about formation of World Newah Organisation represented by Newah from different parts of the world including UK. Recent UK visit by Daya Ratna Shakya, the Chairperson of WNO was also remembered.

He pointed out that all the hard work of the team put into PPGUK should not be overlooked. The need to have a united NEWAH front in the future must be appreciated and acted upon. He urged all Founder members of Pasa Pucha Guthi UK to come forward to take Guthi, they had formed ten years ago, ahead and requested the to advise / supervise the Executive Committee.

In the programme the Treasurer Dhiraj Bade Shrestha presented the budget for the last year and the balance on the PPGUK’s account. He also pointed out at the large sum still to be collected from the advertisers from the last year’s Guthi magazine.

After the usual business, the new Executive Committee of Pasa Puchah Guthi UK for Year  2010 -12 was unanimously elected by the AGM. The Executive Committee comprise following individuals:

General Secretary-   Ojesh Singh

Joint Secretary –  Sanyukta Shreshta

Treasurer –  (Executive committee to exercise and to elect)

Executive Member –   Suresh Shrestha

According to the PPGUK constitution of 16 August 2008, immediate past President Krishna Chakhun  and Immediate past Vice- President Binod Shrestha remain Members of the Executive Commttee by default for next 2 years.

Shashi Manandhar, Amrit Sthapit and Arjun Pradhan were the founder members present in the AGM and they were unanimously nominated as the Advisors of Pasa Puchah Guthi UK.

The AGM also elected five representatives as Members for PPGUK Board of Trustees. The persons elected are: Sachetan Tuladhar, Rameshwor Shrestha, Ojesh Singh, Sanyukta Shrestha, Krishna Chakhun. Similarly Menaka Shrestha has been elected as Representative for Women’s Development Committee under PPGUK BOT.

Newly elected President, Sachetan Tuladhar, a Doctor in Physics by Profession, feels himself as a novice though have been active n PPGUK programmes since last 6 years or so. He has clearly demonstrated his enthusiasm to do something good for Guthi. For that the newly elected President has requested help, suggestion and guidance from the Founders, past team members and all other members and well wishers of Guthi.

Newly elected General Secretary, Ojesh Singh also echoed the president’s vision and suggested that those who want to work should not be afraid of mistakes, but learn lessons from them and he stressed that there should be an attitude of correcting the mistakes and proceed forward. He also urged all the members to be patient with the new team and support the activities of the committee. The team has noted various proposals and plans raised in the programme and suggested to produce an action plan after discussing in the next immediate meeting of the body.

The longstanding Advisor Dr David Gellner has been re-nominated as an Advisor of PPGUK. The event was brought to an end with well wishes to the new committee and the vote of thanks from Chairman of the meeting Shashi Manandhar. Shashi highlighted on the importance of unity among Newah and emphasised on staying united keeping differences aside.Â
