Guthi Seminar 2015 : Press Release

London – 8th february 2015

Pasa Puchah Guthi UK (PPGUK) organised their second Guthi Seminar at School of Oriental and
African Studies (SOAS), London on 8th February 2015 under the theme of ‘Newahs in British
Contemporary Society’.

The programme commenced with PPGUK’s General Secretary, Ms. Tribeni Gurung
welcoming the audience and then PPGUK’s President, Mr. Kapil Shrestha, declaring the seminar open.

The seminar focused on presentations from Newah professionals who displayed their work,
projects and insight into their chosen careers. Ten speakers were drawn in from several
disciplines including Health, Art, Finance and Sciences. Speakers included: Ms. Sonu Shrestha,
Mr. Sudin Kansakar, Ms. Sita Shrestha, Dr. Nikki Shakya, Ms. Sumi Shrestha, Dr. Sangita Shrestha,
Mr. Sandeep Shrestha, Ms. Nina Manandhar, Dr. Pabitra Tuladhar and Ms. Anuma Shrestha.

The seminar was structured in three different sessions. Each session was chaired by;
PPGUK’s founding member Mr. Shashidhar Manadhar, Dr. Roshan Lal Shrestha from the University
of Cambridge, and Dr. Sudha Shrestha from the University of Reading. Each presentation lasted
between 15-20 minutes followed by 5 minutes of a question and answer session.

During the event, guests were offered breakfast, lunch and tea breaks in between sessions
allowing members of the audience as well as the presenters to interact with one another.

One of PPGUK’s founding members and Secretary of Lumbini Nepalese Buddha Dharma Society,
Dr. Dharma Bhakta Shakya, delivered a keynote speech. His presentation aimed to answer ‘What
really matters in life?’ and reflected on his personal experiences as well as teachings from
religious and faith leaders.

The chief coordinator for the seminar, Dr. Sachetan Tuladhar concluded the Guthi Seminar by
thanking members of the audience, presenters and all those involved to make the seminar a grand
success.

Presenters and guests were invited for a dinner at the end of the event and were bid farewell.
